My stay at the Walt Disney Technicolor Dream House

As I pushed open the bulls-eye red door of a mid-century modern home nestled in a quiet neighborhood in Palm Springs, California, my hands shook like an antsy, excited kid. With my head spinning, I walked into a dream world trying to comprehend I was in Walt Disney’s house, like a friend staying for the weekend.

Until I saw myself in the mirrors of the front entry, I thought I might wake up from my dream at any moment. I stood alone for a few minutes so I could have a private moment to discover his house much like a kid discovers his parks. Then I had to introduce my kids to theWalt Disney Technicolor Dream Houseand thewonderment on their faces was better than a MagicBand loaded with unlimited Fast Passes.

The Walt Disney Technicolor Dream House is a popular vacation rental located 10 minutes from downtown Palm Springs. Nestled along the San Jacinto Mountains, the area boasts little wind and a celebrated golf course with two 18-hole courses.

Will the Walt Disney Technicolor Dream House Work for You

The Walt Disney Technicolor Dream House wowed my family of tweens and teens but might not be the best fit for families with small children. I found many mirrored surfaces, white leather sofas and a pool with a 7-foot depth.

The Neighborhood Details

Located in a quiet neighborhood 5 miles south of the Palm Springs International Airport, the Walt Disney Technicolor Dream has accommodations for eight, ideal for multi-generational families with golf lovers. The Indian Canyon Golf Resort is an open course that’s a favorite with celebrities and former presidents.

Did you know that Walt Disney had a house in Palm Springs? Yes he lived in the house in the 1960s and your family can spend the night, just like family.

The Walt Disney Technicolor Dream House is located in the quiet Indian Canyons Golf Resort on the second fairway of the north course, a 10-minute drive from downtown Palm Springs. Golfers like Frank Sinatra and Bob Hope were regulars at the Indian Canyons Golf Resort along with former presidents Lyndon B. Johnson and Ronald Reagan. Walt Disney even donated the resort fountain that shoots water 100-feet into the air.

The Walt Disney Technicolor Dream House is available as a vacation rental, daily ($$$) or weekly. It’s professionally managed by an attentive local office available for assistance if needed.

The House Details

The Walt Disney had this house built in 1962 and it was owned by the Disney family until recently. His mid-century modern desert jewel has been lovingly maintained while offering modern conveniences travelers need. The Walt Disney Technicolor Dream House is a celebration of color built when his television show changed its name to Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color and started broadcasting in color.

I picked out the gold and pink bedroom for my stay at the Walt Disney Technicolor Dream House.

A layout ideal for entertaining, the main rooms open to the outdoor living area. I found four bedrooms, two outfitted king-sized beds and two bedrooms with a pair of twin beds.

All bedrooms have attached bathrooms. The Walt Disney house fits the needs of multi-generational family since the master suites are on opposite sites of the house.

I choose the gold and pink room that features a king-sized bed and opens onto the pool deck. The walls of my room glitter with gold flecks that transports me to the glamour of Old Hollywood. The pink touches are feminine without being overly girly.

The Tomorrowland-themed bedroom can’t be beat for kids when they dream of Disney.

My boys had to stay in the turquoise Tomorrowland-themed room outfitted with twin beds. With vintage posters adorning the walls, this room was a hit with my boys.

I found a black and red bedroom with twin beds that reminded me of Minnie Mouse. The other master suite has gold and yellow furnishings in the quietest corner of the house with the largest bathroom.

My 13-year-old daughter loved the red-and-black themed bedroom at the Walt Disney Technicolor Dream House.

As I wandered around the Walt Disney Technicolor Dream House, I found hidden Mickeys and Walt Disney quotes hidden in the closets. During our stay, my kids felt like someone was watching over them, I like to think it was Walt Disney enjoying the laughter of my kids.

Family-Friendly Activities

The Indian Canyon Golf Resort is open to the public for an additional fee. A 36-hole golf resort with two 72-par courses with views of the San Jacinto mountains.

During my stay, my family enjoyed the outdoor living area since the weather was warm.With a several chaises to relax, I watched the kids swimming while flipping through a magazine.

My boys found the games in the hall closet along with this message from Walt Disney.

Walt Disney’s house includes a salt water pool with a waterfall and a spa outfitted with lighting for night swimming. The backyard offers a virtually wind-free area, great for swimming kids.

The gas barbeque makes cooking dinner a breeze. With the covered outdoor table with seating for eight, the patio makes an ideal place to gather.

Every Disney fan loves looking for hidden Mickey’s. What about looking for them in Walt Disney’s old house?

Secluded from the neighbors with mature plantings along the edge, the back yard features amble space to play. My daughter worked on her cartwheels during our stay. I found a Ping Pong table set up on the covered patio, a hit with my boys.

  • This property comes with a thorough house manual that walked me though the operations of the pool and complimentary Wi-Fi.
  • Don’t worry if you forgot the beach towels, the Walt Disney’s Technicolor Dream House has them for you.
  • Walt Disney’s Technicolor Dream House’s management company, ACME House Company is very helpful. They were in constant communication with me to ensure that I arrived to the house.
  • Pets are welcome with an additional fee.
  • The cleaning fee is additional.
